01

What is PTSD?

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric condition that can develop after experiencing any traumatic event. PTSD can cause a wide range of disruptive symptoms, including:

  • Intense and disturbing thoughts and memories of the trauma
  • Flashbacks or nightmares
  • Nightmares
  • Extreme sadness, anger, or fear
  • Detachment from other people
  • Avoidance of people, places, or activities that trigger memories
  • Heightened reactions to unexpected sounds or situations

PTSD is highly individual—symptoms and their severity vary from person to person.

02

What causes PTSD?

The exact causes of PTSD are not fully understood. Traumatic experiences can alter the brain’s regulation of stress hormones and chemicals, affecting emotional and cognitive responses.

You may be at higher risk for PTSD if you have:

  • A personal or family history of depression or anxiety
  • Experienced trauma at any point in your life
  • A history of substance use disorders
  • Limited social or emotional support

Ketamine IV infusion therapy provides rapid relief from depression, anxiety, and PTSD-related symptoms. By offering mental and emotional clarity, ketamine can make other therapies—like talk therapy, desensitization therapies, and processing therapies—more effective.

Ketamine therapy is often used alongside other treatments to enhance overall outcomes and symptom management.

What Happens During Ketamine IV Therapy for PTSD?

Before treatment, you will have a comprehensive consultation with an Anesthesiologist/Anesthetist to determine whether ketamine therapy is right for you.

Treatment typically begins with a series of six low-dose IV infusions, administered once or twice per week. Each session lasts approximately one hour, including:

  • 40 minutes of active infusion
  • 20 minutes of recovery

During the infusion, many patients report a relaxed or floating sensation. Mild side effects, such as brief visual changes, may occur but generally fade quickly after the session.

Based on your response and symptom severity, your provider may recommend maintenance infusions to help sustain the benefits. You will be continuously monitored during all infusions to ensure safety and adherence to best practices.
